Questions for candidates to ask in interview

It is really important to ask relevant questions at the end of an interview. These are examples of some great questions to ask at an interview.
Put yourself in the shoes of the interviewer when you prepare your questions. If you are meeting the Manager of the team you will potentially be joining, what questions are going to impress him/her? Questions about his/her team, the day to day duties, the team personalities and what he/she thinks are the best points about working on his/her team, are all likely to be winners.

Always make sure your first questions centre on the specific role you are going for and not on money or career progression opportunities. Interviewers want to know that you are passionate and committed to this role, not just about the role you can be promoted to.
  • Why has the position become available?
  • What are the personalities of the team like?
  • What is the culture of your organisation?
  • What is the policy of your company on training and development?
  • What are the future plans of the company?
  • What would I expect to be involved in during my first 3/6/12 months?
  • What are the long term prospects for the successful applicant?
  • Ask about the interviewer’s background. People always like to talk about themselves and this gives you the chance to gather your thoughts.
  • Who would I be reporting to and what are they like?
  • How would my day be split?  What will I be doing the highest % of the time?
  • Can you talk me through a typical day in the role?
  • What are you looking for in the candidate that will be successful in this role? This also gives you valuable information that you can use to your advantage later in the interview or at 2nd stages.
  • Is there anything else you would like to know about me? This is a perfect final question to ask as it gives the opportunity for the interviewer to tell you about any reservations they may have and for you to cover them off.
